Arequipa-It is often said that the city's name comes from the Quechua phrase "Ari, quepay" which means "Yes, here" which is said to have been the response of the Fourth Inca - Mayta Capac - upon seeing the site of the great city. The Colca Canyon, Deeper than the Grand Canyon, is home to the Andean Condor, a species that has had a worldwide effort to preserve. The landscape allows for breathtaking views.
‘Cruz del Condor’, a popular tourist attraction, where the condors are best seen in the early mornings and late in the afternoon while they hunt.
The name Colca refers to small holes in the cliffs in the valley and canyon—used in Inca and pre-Inca times to store food, such as potatoes and other Andean crops.
In addition to the Colca Canyon, the La Calera hot springs at Chivay are a wonderful way to relax after a day's touring, and the Toro Muerto cemetery of the Wari Indians.
